Meet the Founders

Charlotte Stutts and Althea Russell, the co-founders of MOB City Volleyball, are lifelong teammates whose journey began on the volleyball courts of John L. LeFlore High School. Their shared passion for the game earned them both scholarships to play at the collegiate level; Charlotte attended the University of Mobile, and Althea played at Alabama State University. Both competed at nationally ranked programs, where they honed their skills, determination, and leadership abilities. Beyond their athletic achievements, they witnessed the disparities in access and opportunity that exist within the sport. After their playing careers, both felt a calling to give back to the sport that had given them so much. They transitioned into coaching, driven by a shared desire to mentor young athletes and empower them to succeed, just as they had. Through their years of coaching, the challenges they faced as young athletes - the lack of resources, the systemic barriers, the feeling of being overlooked - became even clearer. They saw firsthand that talent and passion weren't enough and that opportunity wasn't always a level playing field. And that is why they created MOB City Volleyball.
